Ethernet in 3 Steps
What you need
- A IFethernet board with 10-pin flat ribbon cable
- A target with NICO monitor
- A PC with Windows (98 or higher) and network interface
- A standard RJ45 patch cable
- The LANTRONIX
Com Port Redirector
- It is supposed that the network card is configured as follows:
- TCP/IP protocol installed
- fix IP Address between 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.254
- Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
- Before you begin, verify the communication with the target via a "normal" RS232!
1st Step
With the 10-pin flat ribbon cable connect CN2 on the IFethernet with the IF connector of your target (CN4 is for a IF-Module and CANNOT be used as connector to the target!).
Make sure that pin 1 on the IFethernet is connected to pin 1 on the target!
Connect the IFethernet with the network interface of the PC (standard RJ45 patch cable) and power-on the target. The green LED on the front side of the RJ45 connector must light now (or else you have the wrong kind of cable).
2nd Step
Install the driver (
User Guide). The installation program, creates an extra - virtual - COM port (e.g. COM3) and a configuration program on your PC. Start the redirector configuration program and activate "Raw Mode" under "Port Settings". Next, under "Add IP", enter 192.168.1.1 for Host, and 10001 for TCPPort, then save the configuration.
3rd Step
Start the Windows-HyperTerminal and make a connection via the newly created COM port (e.g. COM3). The driver ignores interface parameters (baudrate etc.), so you need not change the default settings. In the HyperTerminal window you should now be able to "talk" to the NICO monitor.
How to continue...
Most likely you will need to adapt the XPort default settings, such as baudrate and IP address, to your requirements. This is done best with telnet. Open a DOS box and enter "telnet 192.168.1.1 9999". Hitting Enter starts the XPort configuration program. All settings can be changed in a menu-driven fashion. When changing default settings, be sure you know what you're doing. See the
www.mct.netXPort documentation for a description of the configuration program.
