The Original
ZWERG11A is a single board computer for use in applications requiring compact constructions. The heart of the ZWERG11A is an highly integrated IC. The micro controller MC68HC11A1 contains a 8Bit CPU, A/D converter, various peripherals, timer system, interrupt system and memory. 256 bytes RAM and 512 bytes EEPROM are available. With an average instruction length of 2.5 bytes for the HC11, ca. 200 assembler instructions can be stored in the internal EEPROM. There is also a version of the ZWERG11A with 2KB EEPROM, using the MC68HC11E2 chip. In case the 512 bytes of the standard version are not sufficient, simply upgrade to the larger version. It can store about 1000 assembler instructions.
A development kit is available, containing a ZWERG11A board, the necessary cables, a serial interface module, a cross assembler and various auxiliary programs, among other things a tool for programming the MC68HC11A1/E2. User programs are programmed directly into the EEPROM of the HC11, an additional programmer is not necessary.
The software supplied with the development kit contains various example programs:
- In/output via the serial interface
- Control of alphanumeric displays (LCD)
- Control of graphic displays (LCD)
- Setting and reading the Real Time Clock (RTC)
- Displaying date and time from the RTC on a LCD
- Displaying the values of the ADC on a LCD
- Square wave generation at port A using a timer interrupt
- "We make music", i.e. the ZWERG11A produces sound with a loudspeaker
- Programming of the watchdog
In addition, assembler source routines are included as well as definition files for the hardware.
By factory default, each ZWERG11A comes with a simple monitor program in the EEPROM. With this monitor program, the user can immediately test the functions of the board.
ZWERG11plus is a single board computer compatible to the ZWERG11A. The essential difference is more RAM (32KB) and more EEPROM (32KB), as well as the higher current consumption.
